Antique Dining Table – Stage 1

We received this beautiful antique dining table into our Melbourne workshop. Our client Sue had had the table in storage for over twenty years. Sue’s grandmother knew how fond Sue¬†was of this beautiful piece of furniture, so the antique table was passed down. After a long period in storage the surface finish had broken down and the timber had ‘greyed’ over the years loosing some of the life and luster. We set about putting the swagger back into the stride of this old timer!

Stage 2 – Strip

We firstly stripped the last remnants of the previous finish from the antique dining table. We then gave it a light sand to remove the few surface blemishes and water ring stains. Now some tables just naturally co-operate and Sue’s table was definitely in this category. It striped beautifully and sanded back a treat. The solid timber top already looking fantastic, just wait till the oil is applied!

Stage 3 – Revive

We applied a couple of coats of reviver mix to this antique treasure, to bring back the life and luster into the timber. A rub down with some 000 wire wool and we were ready to start applying the woodwax top coat, all natural nourishment for timber with a good degree of protection for the surface.

Stage 4 – Top Coat

It’s winter right… so we need to take every advantage given to us! A sunny day is an absolute bonus, we set the antique dining table in the from yard and let that woodwax bake in the sunshine. And there you have it all the life brought back, whilst retaining the character of this beautiful antique table.
